Position Summary:
The Peer Recovery Coach (Recovery Coach) is responsible for supporting people who are seeking to begin, maintain, and improve on their recovery. The Recovery Coach promotes recovery through sharing experience and hope as a peer; helps remove barriers; connects Recoverees with resources and additional recovery support services; and encourages them in their journey. The Recovery Coach supports multiple pathways to recovery.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide Recovery Coaching to people who are seeking and/or in recovery, in person, virtually, or on the phone
- Facilitate linkages for Recoverees with treatment, housing, work, medical and behavioral health services, and other resources
- Support Recoverees in creating recovery goals, to help achieve and maintain recovery
- Address barriers to successful recovery and advocate with the Recoveree to get unmet needs met
- Educate about addiction, and encourage Recoveree to participate in other recovery support services, mutual aid groups, wellness offerings, and prosocial activities
- Participate in Coachervision at a minimum of once per month, and utilize supervision for challenging situations, ongoing support, and professional growth
- Follow PRCC protocols for continuous follow-up and quality assurance
- Utilize electronic record system at PRCC to provide and maintain Recoveree support services documentation
Reports to: Recovery Coach Coordinator
Supervises: No Direct Reports
Professional Qualifications:
- Registration as a Peer Recovery Coach in Maine, within six (6) months of hire.
- Lived experience in recovery and personal passion for supporting people in recovery
- Comfort with multiple pathways of recovery from SUD and willingness to embrace a person-centered approach that recognizes an individual’s recovery is self-directed
- Strong advocacy skills along with knowledge of community-based services, resources, and local recovery community
- Warm, personable and approachable. Ability to work with diverse people
- Strong communication skills; ability to listen well and ask good questions
- Ability to work collaboratively, both internally and externally
- Flexibility to adapt to unforeseen needs or circumstances, excellent at problem solving and multitasking, organized, efficient and goal directed
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Team player with high professional standards, positive attitude and flexibility
- Adhere to Portland Recovery Community Center and Peer Recovery Coach Code of Ethics, and present in the community as a positive ambassador for PRCC, Recovery Coaching, and recovery
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have valid driver’s license and ability to drive

Work Schedule:
The Peer Recovery Coach is an employee of the Portland Recovery Community Center. The position and schedule are dependent on the needs of the agency and/or contracted partner. Some travel may be required.
